Japan LNG Imports Seen Entering Downtrend
[Dow Jones] A sharp fall in Japanese natural gas imports in July may be providing a hint of what's to come in Japanese gas consumption. Trade data for July, released Wednesday, showed imports of natural gas fell 11% on-year in volume, and 41% in value. The drop was mainly due to an ongoing shift away from expensive gas to less expensive coal and solar power. The trend is likely to accelerate after the restart of nuclear power in Japan this month, said Yoshikazu Kobayashi, analyst with the Institute of Energy Economics Japan.
