Japan Will Be Needing Less LNG Over Next Decade
[Dow Jones] BMI Research forecasts Japan's demand for liquefied natural gas will decrease by 2.3% over the next 10 years as negative economic and demographic trends drive a structural downtrend in its gas requirements. Growing competition from other energy sources such as coal and oil will also drag on the overall gas demand. However, in the short-to-medium term, Japan's LNG demand will tick slightly higher as the public's opposition against restarting the country's nuclear power generation has been stronger than expected.
