Japanese Trader Itochu Dumps $1 Bln Stake in US Shale for $1
World Oil & Gas News
25.06.2015
The Japanese trading house Itochu has sold its stake in Samson Resources, which was bought by Itochu and a consortium of other investors for $7.2 billion in 2011.
The Japanese trading company Itochu has sold its stake in US oil and gas producer Samson Resources for $1, due to the company's declining return potential and low gas prices in North America, the trading house said on Tuesday in a statement.
The trading house was one of an investment consortium led by equity firm KKR, which bought the Oklahoma-based company for $7.2 billion in December 2011, a sum reported at the time to be the largest leveraged buyout of that year.
Itochu, Japan's third-largest general trading company after Mitsubishi and Matsui, acquired a 25 percent stake in Samson as part of the deal.
